I’ve talked a bit on my blog about my various “favourites”, whether it’s my “Favourite Eco-Friendly Products”, my “Favourite 80s Movies”, my “Favourite Albums” etc. I thought it was about time I introduced you to my favourite TV shows!
The Walking Dead – 2010
If you’ve never heard me talk about The Walking Dead, then you’ve obviously never spoken to me! I don’t think it’s physically possible for me to have a conversation without making at least one reference to this show.
I started watching it in 2010/2011 with my friend at the time, and we were instantly hooked on it. Fast forward to 2018 and I am still in love with this show…even though they do keep killing off my favourite characters.
Most people I’ve spoken to who haven’t watched The Walking Dead tend to think it’s just a show about zombies, but in my opinion, it’s so much more than that. Really, it’s about survival, family, and the lengths people will go to in order to live and survive something they’ve never encountered before. It’s so, so interesting and I’m so invested in the characters that no matter how the show plays out, I know I won’t be able to stop watching until the end.
Brooklyn Nine Nine – 2013
I remember putting on an episode of Brooklyn Nine Nine one evening when I was with my boyfriend, just to watch casually, but just a few episodes in, we knew this was our new show to watch together.
We blitzed the entire five seasons so quickly, and we were pretty disappointed when we finished it!
I don’t even want to talk about how upset we both were when it was cancelled, or the emotional roller coaster we went on when it was getting picked up by another channel – but we are so glad it’s coming back and we cannot wait for the next season.
In my opinion, this is one of the least problematic TV shows out there! It has a hugely diverse cast, tackles so many important issues within our society, and manages to do so in a serious way with some light comedic relief – but they never make jokes at the expense of other people.
Once again, this show is so much more than just a comedy about a police department – it’s another show about family and friendship, and the characters are all so easy to love.
Friends – 1994 to 2004
Despite the negativity Friends has been getting recently as more and more people have been watching it, Friends is a brilliant show.
Yes, it can at times be incredibly problematic, but people tend to forget that, for the 90s, it was actually pretty ahead of its time. Just because we, as a society, have come a long way since it aired, doesn’t mean it’s a terrible show, and doesn’t mean everyone should stop watching it.
Friends is just one of those shows you can watch over and over again and never tire of, at least for me anyway.
Parks and Recreation – 2009 to 2015
I bought all seven seasons of Parks and Recreation on box set, and I think that’s the most money I’ve ever spent on a TV show, but it was worth every penny.
I don’t tend to watch too many comedy shows as I am more into the drama and crime genres however this is easily one of my favourite shows, and I love the stupid humour much more than I thought I would.
Toby and I are currently making our way through this show together, as I watched it before we were in a relationship, and I am so excited for him to start understanding the references I am making every time I quote Ron Swanson.
I am so in love with all the characters in this, but I fell even more in love with the introduction of Chris (played by Rob Lowe) a few seasons in, and I cannot imagine the show without him.
If you haven’t watched this show, but are a fan of laid-back watching – watch this.
Stranger Things – 2016
This was the first show Toby and I ever watched together, and I think that makes me love this show even more.
The show is based in the 1980s which is one of my favourite eras, so the whole aesthetic of the show had me hooked straight away – but the cast themselves kept me watching more than anything. Despite them all being about fourteen years old when the show began, they are all incredible actors and I don’t think I’ve ever been more impressed.
The show currently has two seasons, and I wish the third season was coming a little bit sooner.
2019 can not come quick enough.
Wayward Pines (but only Season 1), 11.22.63, How I Met Your Mother, Code Black, Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
Have you watched any of these shows?
What shows are your favourite? Let me know!
