#Gifted #PlasticFreeJuly
Recently, I reached out to Caroline, the owner and creator of ‘Carrie Bags’ and she very kindly sent me two of her products to review and share with you here on my blog.
I was so happy to receive these bags in time for #PlasticFreeJuly too!
Before I tell you what I thought of the bags, here’s a little bit about the company for some context.
Carrie Bags are a small company who are passionate about making a positive difference in terms of reducing plastic usage.
To do so, they create 100% eco-friendly cotton string bags which are not only reusable, but are strong, and come in a variety of beautiful colours!
If you’ve been following my blog for a while, you will know that I have been making a conscious effort to reduce my personal impact on the environment by choosing eco-friendly and sustainable alternatives to mainstream products that cause harm to our planet.
I’ve been using reusable bags for a very long time now, but I absolutely love the look of these Carrie Bags, and I thought they’d be perfect to use when shopping for loose fruit and veg at the supermarket to avoid the single-use plastic bags they have on offer in the aisles.
Carrie Bags definitely do the job in that respect, but they’re so versatile and you can use them for holding pretty much anything. They’re also super easy to fold up small enough to make them convenient to carry around, so you’ll never be caught without a reusable bag!
The thing I love most about the Carrie Bags is their simple yet beautiful look. I opted for one white bag and one turquoise, and they are both just so beautiful; the turquoise especially is such a great summer colour.
My absolute favourite colour of the Carrie Bags is definitely the Rose Pink, but it’s clearly a favourite as it seems to frequently be out of stock. If you’re lucky enough to see them when they are in stock, I wouldn’t recommend hesitating, get them while you can!
Aside from the bags themselves being eco-friendly, their packaging is too. They are packaged in beautiful little paper bags that are easy to recycle – or, if you’re more of a reuser and can carefully remove the stickers, you can use them again however suits you.
So, the Carrie Bags are great, but you may be wondering why you should buy them instead of plastic bags for just 5p?
Well, although many shops and supermarkets continue to use plastic bags, doing contributes to a significant amount of plastic waste, as well as causing harm to our environment. Even biodegradable plastic bags, advertised to be less harmful take months and months to biodegrade, which is just not good enough.
It is estimated that around 300 million tons of plastic is produced globally each year, and just 10% of that actually gets recycled. The remaining plastic that doesn’t get recycled ends up simply thrown away, and an estimated seven million tons of plastic ends up in our oceans each year.
This kind of plastic pollution not only has an impact on our planet overall, but it is also causing serious harm to our marine life and seabirds, killing around 100,000 marine mammals and turtles, and 1 million sea birds annually.
If we want to reduce our impact and save our oceans, environment, and its inhabitants, we really need to take a step back and understand what we need to do in order to make a difference.
Using reusable bags is such a simple fix that will make a huge impact. Carrie Bags are less than £10, and, depending on how regularly you’re purchasing 5p-10p bags, is much gentler on both the environment and your wallet!
Be sure to support Caroline and help our planet by purchasing a Carrie Bag, and follow Carrie Bags on their social medias – linked below.
Thank you again to Caroline for sending me these bags! I’ll be using these for a long, long time.
I’m all for these! They look lovely too so that’s a big plus x`

I completely agree! I think many people either just don’t care enough to use the alternatives, or won’t go out and get them!
